Reviews

Gold, Seattle Wine Awards, May 2019

"A very ripe and somewhat earthy nose with rich dark-berry and plum-cake aromas that lead to a cassis-flavored palate that has long, succulent fruit presence. A blend of 85% cabernet sauvignon 8% malbec and 7% cabernet franc. Drink in the next six years." 91 points
  -James Suckling, April 2019

"Dark ruby hint of violet. Lovely ripe black currant fruit and fine tannins. Sweet cherry, hint of anise and resin, complex and elegant wine." 91 points.

Tasting notes

Opens with the opulent aromas of blue and black fruits, vanilla, and minerals. Satiny tannins back a round, smooth mouthfeel before a final burst of fruit comes through on the lingering finish.

Production notes

As much as possible, we take a non-interventionist approach to winemaking. We place great emphasis on vineyard selection, picking, pressing, and blending so that Hightower wines are naturally beautiful and free from pretense. We let the powerful and concentrated fruit from Red Mountain speak for itself. The result is a collection of well-balanced, nuanced wines that reveal something new and interesting each time you open a bottle. We like to think they’re wines with character through and through — in how they were made, how they taste, and in the connections they inspire.

Other notes

When Tim and Kelly opened their winery in Woodinville in 1997, the first grapes they bought were Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain. When they purchased the land on Red Mountain that is currently Hightower Estate Vineyard and winery, the first thing they planted was Cabernet Sauvignon. You can say that Cab is a pretty big deal around here; it has been affectionately nicknamed the “flagship wine” of Hightower Cellars.
